Animal Sculptures
by Marsha Holt

On this page you will see some beautiful handcrafted goat sculptures done by my Mom .  Each of her unique sculptures is one of a kind, signed and dated.  There are currently no reproductions of her artwork.  She can create a sculpture of your favorite breed or from photos of your favorite goat.  Her sculptures are not limited to goats as she also creates many other types of animals.  Below are some examples of her work. ABOUT THE ARTIST
Marsha L. Holt

BACKGROUND
Animals have always been my passion.  I love everything about them; type, size, color, behavior, gender, etc.  As a child, I would sit and draw pictures of animals for hours on end.  When outdoors, I was continuously observing them, paying attention to each minute detail of their appearance.  Not have access to art supplies such as clay, mud would often times fit the bill for my sculpting medium, which I obviously had to make myself.  I would practice sculpting elephants, dogs, cats, or some kind of animal.   My attention to detail raised a few eyebrows, as most of my animals were anatomically correct.  Mud was really messy and my mother would just shake her head when I came inside, covered with it.  Not wanting to discourage me, she eventually bought me some real clay.  I was in heaven!  I continued to sculpt throughout my childhood and into my early adult years, having only slowed down to raise children of my own.  I later enrolled in a few art classes offered at out local community college and studied under the awesome freelance artist, Barbara Poindexter.  I have since incorporated several mediums into my sculptures and my passion is once again soaring!  I did, however, eliminate the use of mud.

STYLE
Working in a precise realistic style, I feel compelled to portray animals in their most noble character, which requires adding a dimension beyond merely duplicating photos of animals.  Each hair of the animal is created, one at a time even if a little extra accuracy goes unnoticed.

RESEARCH
I spend a great deal of time observing animals in their natural surroundings as I believe that in order to capture their appearance, I have to know and feel their spirit.  Most of the detail created comes from memory, very little comes from photographs.

LIFESTYLE
My studio is anywhere I happen to be, observing my subjects.  I love spending time in nature and at my daughter’s farm where she raises, along with her children, goats, llamas, alpacas, sheep and cattle.  Although I live in the city, my heart belongs where I can “walk with the animals”.  I am so very thankful to all of those that encourage me and for their support over the years and especially to the Good Lord and all he has given to me "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above" (James 1:17)
